In the pursuit of very high quality standards, all Thorens devices are designed and manufactured with a long product life in mind. Apparently, the Model AD30 came in several box variations. The wood box measured 7 ¼ inches by 5 ¾ inches. On May 7, 2013, a 1960s-1970s Thorens Model AD30 complete with its period box, paper instructions and 16 discs, closed at $305 plus $15 shipping and handling. Thorens AD30 music boxes appear regularly for sale on eBay.Maybe you find a box that seems to be a bargain. The cost of repairs will always exceed the value of your antique music box. Reason is the soul of the law, as the legal profession says. Here it is: Never pay anyone to repair your music box. Do not support or rest the tonearm tube on the block, so it sees no force. Rest the tonearm socket housing on a block of wood that has a small hole in it, so the pin can poke out the bottom side. Move the headshell fixing nut out of the way.Once the metal plates are screwed in place with the gears in between them, check to see that the gears turn freely. They have dowel pins for alignment and are screwed in place. X2 First start with the side plates and the two gears that go between them and assemble these onto the casting or metal part that separates them.
